Venues

Venues are the canonical listings of information about places that Events are performed at. A Venue has information like a title called 'Venue,' an 'address,' and similar data as might be found in a public directory like Google Maps. For this reason, Venues may be associated with a 'Google place ID' in order to pull publicly available data into the system. This is not a sync nor is it automatic, which means it is acceptable for Venues to have different information than Google Maps.

Venues contain many datapoints that relate directly to and exclusively to information necessary for events like 'stage available.' Often the datapoints are collected by questionnaire. The description of a datapoint is where questions are phrased for the questionnaire. See Venues record document for reference.

Venues is the authoritative source for venue information and as a means of maintaining data quality. Updates and references to Venues are manual by default. For instance, incoming Events inquiries have a name of a venue that is input by the form submitter, and that name is explicitly not used to create or associate a Venue to an Event. There is also data that lives on Events that is about a venue because that data varies on an event-by-event basis.

While details about Venues are collected over time, an Event must be attached to a Venue with an 'address' before a customer can make a payment.
